Occupant Behavior Modeling Tools Webinar
March 15, 2016
The 90-minute webinar included four parts: (1) Karma Sawyer, Technology Manager at U.S. Department of Energy, gave an overview of R&D Directions and Opportunities at the Building Technologies Office of USDOE; (2) Jimmy Tran, Operations Manager of U.S.-China Clean Energy Research Center (CERC) on Building Energy Efficiency (BEE) Consortium, gave an overview of objectives, key research activities and outcomes from CERC-BEE 1.0 (2011-2016) Program and the upcoming CERC-BEE 2.0 (2016-2021) Program; (3) Tianzhen Hong, Staff Scientist, and Yixing Chen, Senior Scientific Engineering Associate of Building Technology and Urban Systems Division of LBNL , provided an overview of the occupant behavior research project under CERC-BEE 1.0, introduced and demonstrated the three occupant behavior modeling tools; and (4) Questions and Answers.
There are about 100 people from eight countries (75% are US participants) participated in the webinar. We thank the participants for their time and providing feedback.
The webinar slides can be downloaded here. We are adding documentation to the obXML and obFMU which will be made available for download from this web site in May 2016. However if you would like to try them out now, please send us a message at thong@lbl.gov. We are happy to get you started.

Lawrence Berkeley National Lab: International Technical Forum
March 30, 2015
Summary: The International Technical Forum included a kick-off introduction by LBNL Staff Scientist, Richard Diamond and co-operating agents, Tianzhen Hong and Da Yan. This was followed by a Department of Energy (DOE) panel on “Envisioning future occupants: A discussion panel for the DOE Buildings of the Future project” and a moderated session entitled “What role might the US government play in supporting occupant behavior research?” This was followed by 8 invited oral presentations from presenters in industry and academia, including engineering and social sciences and from the US, Japan, Germany and Austria. Major categories of topics included occupant modelling approaches, comfort studies, occupant behavior implementation strategies, and case studies.
